Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 17, 2026. This policy covers the ReadTalk apps (starting with ReadTalk Spanish) and the readtalk.app website, in plain language.

What ReadTalk collects

ReadTalk does not collect personal information. The app has no accounts and no sign-up. It captures microphone audio only while the listening switch is on and the app is open, turns that speech into text on the device, translates it on the device, and stores the resulting conversation text locally on your phone. We never see it.

Microphone use

The microphone is used solely to show you live translated captions while you are listening. Audio is processed in real time on the device and is not recorded to a server or uploaded anywhere by the app. When you leave the app or turn the switch off, listening stops. The on-screen indicator always shows when the app is listening.

On-device translation and Google ML Kit

Translation runs on your phone using Google's ML Kit on-device translation. The first time you set up the app, it downloads the translation language packs, which needs a brief internet connection. Google's software may exchange limited technical information with Google during that download and for periodic pack updates, such as device type and app identifiers, as described in Google's Privacy Policy. The words you hear and read are not part of that: speech and translations are processed on the device, not sent to Google or anyone else.

Where your conversations are stored

Captions and saved conversations are stored only on your device. They are never sent to ReadTalk, to us, or to any third party. You can delete any saved conversation at any time from within the app, and uninstalling the app removes all of its stored data from your device.

Purchases

If you buy ReadTalk through the Apple App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google processes the payment under their own terms and privacy policies, and we do not receive your payment details. If you buy the Android version directly from readtalk.app, the payment is processed by Stripe on Stripe's secure checkout pages; we receive an order confirmation with your email address so we can deliver the download and help with support, but we never see or store your card number.

The readtalk.app website

The website is a set of static pages. It does not use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you send so we can reply, and we use it for nothing else.

Children

ReadTalk is a general-purpose translation and accessibility tool. It does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.

Recording laws

Because ReadTalk shows you what other people are saying, recording and consent laws vary by region. The always-visible listening indicator is there so the people around you know when it is on. Please use ReadTalk in line with the laws where you are.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how ReadTalk handles data, we will update this page and its date. Because the app is built around on-device processing, we expect any changes to be small and in the same spirit.
